Sound familiar?

Everyone asks you to do their tree. Nobody has ever paid you for it.

Every December, somebody stands in your living room, looks at your tree, and says it.

"How do you DO this?" And every so often: "Would you come do mine?"

You laugh and say, "Oh, it's nothing." Meanwhile there's ribbon all over your kitchen table, and the new ornaments have been hiding in the guest bathtub since October. December is the one month everybody wants your opinion.

It's never crossed your mind that people would pay for it.

A woman about 60 on a small step stool adds gold ribbon to a neighbor's tree while the elderly neighbor watches from an armchair
A decorator's tote tipped open with ribbon, picks, wire and snips

When the house gets quiet

Maybe you've retired and the weekdays feel long. Somebody at church asks, "So what are you up to these days?" and you're not sure what to say.

Between drop-off and pickup

Or the kids are in school till 2:30 and every job wants you till 5. So you ask your husband for gift money and feel like a child asking for allowance.

You'd like some money of your own. Money you earned yourself, doing the thing everybody already asks you to do.

Most women who are good at this have no idea it's a real job. People pay someone to come decorate their Christmas tree every year. And the people who'd call you probably live on your street.

A finished Christmas tree glowing in an ordinary living room at dusk
What this is

You go to their house, do their tree with their own ornaments, and they pay you.

How a booking works

What a booking looks like, start to finish.

Boxes of a family's ornaments opened on a living room rug beside a bare tree

You go to their house

Usually a weekday morning, while they're at work. Their ornaments are still in shoeboxes in the garage.

Hands tucking a cranberry velvet ribbon into a lit Christmas tree

You do their tree

You fluff every branch, redo the lights, run the ribbon and hang their ornaments the way you'd do your own. It takes about two to three hours.

A couple in their coats stops, delighted, in front of their finished Christmas tree

They come home to a finished tree

You go home with a check. Before you leave, you ask if they'd like you back in January to take it down.

Ornaments being wrapped in tissue and packed into storage bins

You come back in January

You wrap every ornament in tissue, wind the lights and pack it all in labeled bins. Then they pay you again.

The Tree Styling Method is a short written course that shows you how to do a tree that isn't yours, what to charge, what to say, and where your first three clients come from.

No inventoryYou use their ornaments. You don't buy stock.
No recruitingNo team, no parties, nothing to sell to your friends.
No ladders on roofsNo outdoor lights. Just your step stool in their living room.
A season, not a jobTrees go up Thanksgiving to mid-December. Takedowns in early January.
Who it's for

If people slow their car down to look at your tree, this is for you.

A woman about 63 with a tote of ribbon and a step stool is greeted at the door by her elderly neighborThe one with the beautiful tree

Your kids are grown and your weekdays are wide open

People take pictures of your tree every December. You've done your own for twenty years and you know exactly how you like it. You'd like somewhere to be on a Tuesday morning, and a little money of your own to travel on or tuck away.

Your first client might be the widow across the street who "can't do the ladder anymore." Often it's her daughter in another state who pays.

A mom about 38 hangs ornaments on a client's tree mid-morning, a coffee tumbler and car keys on the side table"How do you DO this?"

Your kids are in school from 9 to 2:30

Maybe you taught or worked as a nurse before the kids came. Now every job you find wants you till 5, or on Saturdays. The other moms ask how you make your house look like that. And you're tired of asking your husband for money for Christmas presents.

One tree fits in one school day. Your first client might be the mom from pickup who works twelve-hour shifts and just wants her kids to wake up to a tree.

It's probably not for you if…

you want a full-time job, or a promise of what you'll make. Nobody can honestly promise you that.
you don't love doing your own tree. This only works if you already love it and you're good at it.
you want someone else to find your clients. You'll be the one posting and asking. We give you the exact words.
"But that's the fun part"

Who on earth pays someone to decorate their tree?

That's the first thing everybody says. And for you, it's true. But for a lot of people the tree is a chore they dread, or something they just can't do anymore. People like these:

An elderly woman looks up uncertainly at a pulled-down attic ladder
People going up in their yearsThe attic ladder, the heavy boxes, the little hooks in shaky hands.
A woman in her forties on the phone with her mother, holding a framed family photo
Their grown kidsThey live three states away and worry about Mom on that ladder.

People who hate taking it downTheir tree is still standing in February. They'll book you for January on the spot.
Often it's parents that just are tired… or some that are going up in their years and don't want to get on ladders anymore.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission counted about 14,900 ER visits from holiday decorating in one season. Nearly half were falls. Plenty of people are done climbing the step ladder. They just don't know who to call.

U.S. CPSC, Nov 2024
100+

In December 2022, Newsweek wrote about Amanda Ware, a former teacher, 43, and a mom of two. She told them she decorates "a minimum of 100 trees" at "an average of $1,000" per tree. You don't need anything close to that. It just shows you people really do pay for this.

Newsweek, Dec 2022
How it works

Seven steps, in the same order, on every tree you do.

You already know how to make a tree look beautiful. The hard part is doing it in somebody else's living room, with a box of ornaments you didn't pick, and being done by lunch. The Tree Formula is the order you do things in, so every tree comes out looking finished.

  1. ShapeFluff every branch, tip by tip, so the tree looks full before anything goes on it.
  2. LightsRedo their strands deep into the branches, in and out, so the tree glows from inside.
  3. RibbonLoose waves down the tree. It's what makes people ask, "Who did your tree?"
  4. Ornament layersBig and plain deep inside, favorites at eye level, small sparkly ones out front.
  5. PicksBerries, florals and frosted sprays to fill the gaps and make odd ornaments look like a set.
  6. TopperThe right size and angle for their tree and ceiling.
  7. FinishStep back across the room, fix the gaps and the skirt, and take a photo if they say yes.

A Signature tree takes about three hours. Here's how that fits around the school run.

  2. 9:15

  4. 2:30

What to charge

Three simple prices, based on how big the tree is.

No more "oh, just give me fifty dollars." Module 3 gives you three packages with example prices based on what Angi says people already pay ($200–$600 a tree), and a takedown price for each one.

Your quiz pickA 7-foot tree decorated with a family's own mismatched ornaments
Package 1

Example price$175–250

Add-ons and deposits

Once they see the tree, they'll ask about the mantel or the front door. Module 3 shows you what to charge for extras, and how to take a deposit so nobody cancels last minute.

  • A mini tree for the kitchen
  • The front door
  • An extra room
  • Deposits
The January takedown

Every tree that goes up has to come down. They'll pay you for that too.

"I love to decorate but HATE taking it down," one woman wrote online. Most people feel the same. The lights get tangled, the good ornaments end up in a grocery bag, and the tree is still up in February.

Paycheck #1 · late Nov to mid-Dec

Putting it up

You're both standing there looking at the tree you just finished. That's when you ask, "Want me to come back after New Year's and take it all down?" It's the easiest yes you'll get all day.

A woman wraps a glass ornament in tissue beside a stack of storage bins with blank tags
Paycheck #2 · early January

Taking it down

You come back, wrap each ornament, wind the lights and pack it all into bins marked by room. Angi says people pay $100–$200 for a takedown.

And before you carry the last bin to the basement, you ask one more thing.

"Same time next year?"

Why this week

Tree season has a start and an end. Right now, you're early.

Nobody hires a decorator for a tree that's already up. Families book in November, and a lot of trees go up Thanksgiving weekend. The women who are ready before then get the calls.

  2. Do the treesThanksgiving weekend to Dec 18. One tree per school morning.

FAQ

Questions women ask before they start

Do I need experience?

If you love doing your own tree and people compliment it, that's the experience that counts. No training, no design background. The Tree Formula shows you how to do it in someone else's house, with their ornaments, in a few hours.

What if no one in my area pays for this?

That's exactly what Module 1 is for. The 15-minute demand check shows you where to look for people near you who are already asking. If you complete Module 1 and decide it's not there for you, you can ask for a refund within 45 days.

Do I need money for supplies?

Very little. You mostly use the client's own ornaments. Your tote (scissors, floral wire, hooks, a step stool and so on) is mostly already in your house; the checklist shows you what to add. For Signature and Grand trees you bring ribbon and picks, and the course shows you how to build that cost into the price.

Is this an MLM?

No. There's nothing to recruit, no team, no "upline", no inventory, and no monthly fee. You buy a course once and you keep what your clients pay you.

What about insurance and contracts?

The course covers the basics of working in someone's home: setting expectations, deposits, breakage and photo permission. Whether you need business insurance or a local license depends on where you live, so check your city and state rules. We're not lawyers and don't give legal advice.

How fast can I start?

Today. Access is instant, and you can read the whole course in a weekend. The fastest start is your own tree. Put it up early, take a good picture, and use the Module 4 scripts to let your neighborhood know you're taking bookings.

Is it a physical product?

No. It's a written course (PDF) plus the four bonuses, in your member portal. Nothing is shipped. You can read it on your phone or print it.

I'm not a designer. Can I really charge for this?

You don't need to be one, and you won't call yourself one. You're the woman who does a beautiful tree and shows up when she says she will. The prices in the course are examples based on what Angi says people already pay for this.

Do I have to climb ladders?

No rooflines, no outdoor lights. This is indoor tree styling with a sturdy step stool. If a tree is taller than you're comfortable with, the course shows you how to price it or pass on it.

How much will I make?

We can't tell you, and we won't guess. It depends on your area, your prices and how many trees you choose to take. The course gives you example prices and the steps to book clients; what you do with them is up to you. See our earnings disclaimer.

This December, someone on your street is going to pay to have their tree done.

Why not you? Put your own tree up early and take a good picture of it. Then knock on the door of the neighbor who can't do the ladder anymore. And before you leave her house, book the January takedown.
